Started in 1885 in Bad Rappenau, Germany by Eugen Herbst, the Conturelle brand grew into a great success story and moved to Mannheim.

In 1936 the company was taken over by Richard Grelling when the Jewish owners were forced to flee the country. The company survived the war and expanded to serve over 50 countries over the next 15 years.
